Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda’s largest national park, spanning approximately 3,840 square kilometres in the northwestern part of the country. Established in 1952, the park is named after the iconic Murchison Falls, where the mighty Nile River squeezes through a narrow gorge and plunges 43 meters into the Devil’s Cauldron below.

The landscape of Murchison Falls National Park is diverse, encompassing vast savannah plains, dense woodlands, riverine forests, and wetlands. The park is home to a rich variety of wildlife, including large herds of elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, and antelopes, as well as predators such as lions, leopards, and hyenas. The park’s birdlife is equally impressive, with over 450 bird species recorded within its borders, including the rare shoebill stork.
