How Much Does It Cost to Climb Kilimanjaro?
Factors to Consider
The average Kilimanjaro Climbing ranges from $1500 to $5000 or more, depending on factors like group size, route, duration, and services.
Group Size:
This is usually the most important factor, because the smaller the group, the more individual costs to be carried per-person.
Larger groups can share the cost of camp cooks, contribute toward guide fees, etc.
A group of 6 will share many of the costs, versus a couple on a private trek who will shoulder the same costs between the two of them.
Shared costs:
- Mountain Guide
- Tents and camp equipment
- Porters
- Mountain Cook
- Food/ Water
- Transport to/from park gate
Individual Costs (these remain the same, no matter group size)
- Park entry fees (per day)
- Kilimanjaro Climbing Fees (per day)
- Equipment rental (trekking poles/jackets)
For some, the private, exclusive experience of trekking Africa’s highest mountain is worth the extra cost. After all, there is no expectation to share a tent, and few climbers in a group mean more attention from guides, especially during the summit attempt.
One the other hand, some people consider mountain treks as a whole journey, taking time to befriend every member of the climbing group – even porters and mountain chefs! They enjoy staying up late, watching the stars and sharing stories during their trek.
Whichever camp you fall into, just know that Mount Kilimanjaro is a once-in-a-lifetime trek for many, a challenge and a stunning adventure, all at once, and is definitely worth the final cost.
The chosen route can also influence the overall cost of the climb.
Marangu Route is a budget option, because trekkers sleep overnight in huts, this reduces the number of porters required to carry items up the mountain. However, we do not offer Marangu climbs because of the poor acclimatization profile.
However, the Marangu Route does not have the optimal acclimatization as other routes up Kilimanjaro, so the benefit to choosing a route with great acclimatization may be a point to consider.
Lemosho and Machame routes do require more porters as trekkers will overnight in tents throughout the climb, but both these routes boast good acclimatization profiles and are considered superior routes for those serious about reaching the summit.
Longer itineraries provide more time for acclimatization, but they also come with higher costs. Shorter climbs may be more budget-friendly but may pose challenges for acclimatization.
We advise 6 – 7 days minimum to trek Africa’s highest mountain. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and it’s certainly worth the time commitment to reach the summit.
Camping doesn’t have to mean missing out of essentials or all comforts.
We offer mobile camp toilets, showers and oxygen tanks for our climbs.
While these add-ons could add up on the overall cost of Kilimanjaro climbs, some guests say the added comfort is absolutely worth it.
One thing we absolutely will not compromise on is safety.
Our Kilimanjaro climbs are led by experienced mountain guides, and we offer emergency mountain evacuation for all our climbers, too.
The climbing crew consists of a dedicated team of mountain guides, assistant guides, porters and a camp cook.
This group will ensure your safety, dietary needs, and gear is all handled, so you can enjoy the climb.
We do not offer climbs without this important crew, and we ensure they are fairly paid and ethically treated, which can result in our prices being higher than some competitors.
For us, it is more important that we offer excellent climbs than offering budget trek. We will not compromise safety or underpay porters and guides.

Our Travellers Reviews
Outstanding tour operator
I can't say enough good things about Bryson and Petit Maasai. Bryson handled our last-minute trip to Tanzania like he'd been working on it for months instead of a handful of days after we connected about a week before our family arrived.
Awsome
Exciting trip!!! Bryson made a private tour with masai mbome & we had a rest in mountains near Ngorongoro - everything was awsome!!! Morevover, all of our individual things we re made with great discount!Mike is great ranger too!
Kilimanjaro With Petit Maasai safaris- 5 stars!!!
We book 7 days Kilimanjaro with Petit Maasai safaris after having the safari with another company and we made it with a brilliant guide to the summit. We took the Lemosho route, starting in the rain forest and approached the camp via various tents campsites.
A great experience!
We did a safari in the northern parks of Tanzania with Petit Maasai Safaris and it was a great experience! The guide and the cook were really professional and nice with us, trying to make us feel comfortable and to satisfy our requests. Thanks a lot!
