How Much Does It Cost To Climb Kilimanjaro
The average Kilimanjaro Climbing ranges from $1500 to $5000 or more, depending on factors like group size, route, duration, and services.
Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, is a dream for many adventurers. The cost of a Kilimanjaro climb can vary based on several factors, most of all being the size of the group and duration of the climb.
A group of 6 will share many of the costs, versus a couple on a private trek.
Shared costs:
- Mountain Guide
- Tents and camp equipment
- Porters
- Mountain Cook
- Food/ Water
- Transport to/from park gate
Individual Costs (these remain the same, no matter group size)
- Park entry fees (per day)
- Kilimanjaro Climbing Fees (per day)
- Equipment rental (trekking poles/jackets)

Tipping Costs for Guides and Porters
We do recommend tipping guides, porters and cooks at the end of your trek. This is a reflection of a job well done and a motivation for their efforts.
It is advised for the climbing group to all contribute to give the mountain guide $25 per day, porters $10 per day, and the camp cook $10 per day.
Some teams do a collection and give all the porters as a group, for them to share equally at the end of the trek.
Factors that Effect Kilimanjaro Climbing Costs
Different routes have different cost implications. Popular routes like Machame and Lemosho tend to be pricier due to their longer durations and overnight camping, since more porters are needed to carry tents and sleeping pads.
The Marangu trek is a budget option, because trekkers sleep overnight in huts, this reduces the number of porters required to carry items up the mountain. However, we do not offer Marangu climbs because of the poor acclimatization profile.
Longer itineraries provide more time for acclimatization, but they also come with higher costs. Shorter climbs may be more budget-friendly but may pose challenges for acclimatization, as is the case with the Marangu route.
Joining a group climb can be more cost-effective than a private climb since the expenses are shared among participants.
