Enjoy a classic safari experience with game drives and bush walks for a chance to spy all the Big Five of Africa. Overnight at comfortable lodges in stunning settings. Experience cultural encounters with local tribes for the ultimate safari in Northern Tanzania.
This tour is perfect for families, couples or groups looking for a blend of adventure and relaxation, who dream of having fun and making lasting memories while exploring nature.
Day 1: Tarangire National Park
Your safari will start off at the famous Tarangire National Park, known for elephants and the Tarangire River which attracts animals year-round. Animals you’re likely to spot during a game drive include elephants, gazelles, zebras, lions, buffalo, and waterbuck. More rare, but still present in the park are cheetahs, leopards and beautiful oryx.
Enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking Lake Tarangire, or a swamp where families of elephants (including little babies) are likely cooling off.
Depart the park in the late afternoon and head to your accommodations in the Rift Valley area.
Dinner and Overnight at a lodge. All meals included.
Day 2: Manyara National Park
After breakfast, depart for Manyara National Park, located near the Rift Valley. You will see flamingos and other waterfowl in Lake Manyara, and likely spot tree-climbing lions and elephants within the forest, too.
Return for dinner and overnight to the lodge.
All meals included
Day 3: Masaai Culture Tour, Boma Visit
Spend the day experiencing the rich Maasai culture in Karatu or Manyara areas. This day you will visit a traditional Maasai Boma and participate in daily activities, with the opportunity to learn beading, cattle herding, and much more. This is not just a ‘tour’ but a day to share culture and eat, laugh and dance with a local Tanzanian family.
We encourage participants to take full advantage of this day, by eating new and different foods, and perhaps learning how to milk a goat or cow. Families with children might send a letter to a local child before departure, with the opportunity to meet their ‘pen pal’ in person.
Option to eat dinner with a host family, or return to lodge for the evening.
All meals included.
Day 4: Serengeti - Overnight in Central Serengeti
After breakfast, you will depart toward Serengeti National Park, driving through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Ol Duvai Gorge en route.
All meals included.
The Central Serengeti is around the famous Seronera area; a lush grassland where gazelles, impalas and wildebeests can be found year-round. Of course, this also attracts lions and leopards, making this area the “Big Cat Capital” of Africa.
Day 5: Serengeti - Overnight Northern Serengeti
North Serengeti is the area famous for the Great Migration river crossings, where wildebeest and zebra herds forge the dangerous rivers to continue their annual migration between Kenya and Tanzania. Around 2 million animals are estimated to move with the migration, so it is never a dull day in the Serengeti!
Day 6: Serengeti - Overnight Northern Serengeti
Option to add a bush walk to one or two of your days in Serengeti. You will be escorted by an armed ranger in special, designated areas of the wilderness.
Day 7: Serengeti - Overnight South/Central Serengeti
You may also opt to return early to your lodge on any of the days, if you want to enjoy the swimming pool, relax with a massage or spa treatment, or simply have a drink while enjoying the stunning scenery.
Day 8: Half-day Serengeti, drive to Ngorongoro
Have an early sunrise game drive, and head back to the lodge for a hot breakfast and departure to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The drive feels like a continuation of a game drive as you head toward the protected area through the highlands.
Dinner and overnight at a lodge near Ngorongoro.
All meals included.
Day 9 : Empakai Crater Hike
After breakfast, drive to Ngorongoro Conservation area and spend the day in the wild with an armed ranger. After climbing the impressive Empakai Crater, continue with an easy nature walk. The entire experience takes approximately 2-3 hours, depending on your fitness level.
If you are looking for additional adventures, you may also request to see the Elephant Caves and Endoro Waterfall, just outside of Karatu town.
Return to lodge for dinner and overnight.
All meals included.
Day 10: Ngorongoro Crater
After an early breakfast, descend into the world’s largest, intact volcanic caldera. The Ngorongoro Crater boasts the most dense concentration of wildlife in the world. The 100-square mile crater floor is home to zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, gazelle, eland, lions and hyenas. There are also forest elephants and the endangered black rhino. Flocks of pink flamingos cover the soda lakes, while large land birds like ostrich and Kori bustard roam the grassy plain.
Overnight at a lodge in the area. We usually organize a new lodge or hotel, one with an exceptional view and an especially relaxing atmosphere for this final night of the tour. Watch the sunset over the Great Rift Valley and take a few minutes to consider the stary night sky on this final night of your tour.
Day 11: Arusha/Airport transfer
After a hearty breakfast, we depart toward Arusha (approximately 2.5 hrs drive). Depending on your ongoing plans, there may be an opportunity to visit a craft market and do some final souvenier shopping before transfer to the airport for your return home, or ongoing journey to Zanzibar for a beach holiday.
End of the tour. Breakfast included.
